A great broker to get started

If you're looking for a cheap way to get started in the stock market, Zecco might be the best option for you.

As I have only little money to invest (<$10,000), I was looking for a broker that allowed me to invest my money without charging me high fees. With Zecco, I can trade stocks up to 10 times per month and do not pay a single $. Option trades are fairly cheap, too at $4.50 plus $0.50 per contract. I hope they continue with this pricing.

The account was easy to set up and I can automatically transfer money into the account without writing checks. The trading platform is simple and easy to use. I got a margin account right away and it was easy to add options to the account as well. Customer service worked great so far by email, but I have not encountered significant problems yet that needed substantial support.

They also have a community where you can share you returns and chat with other customers - but I am not using it regularly.

The only downside: they don't offer a lot of research or trading tools, but that's fine for me - there is so much information available for free on the web anyway!

You get what you pay for.

I started with Zecco March 2007 and am pretty happy. Zecco has the lowest commissions I have found, and no commissions at all for a long-term investor in stocks.

At various times, especially peaks in volatility like the 2008 crash, the site has been unavailable due to extreme traffic. They seem to have made efforts to address this, and waived commissions for a month as an olive branch, which I thought was decent of them. Additionally, customer service is fairly slow and difficult to get a hold of. I have no problem with this, because I'm paying them $30 a year and don't expect premium service.

I have accounts with Scottrade and Zecco. Zecco is better than Scottrade by far . Trades execute fast and are generally free! Have never had any issues with logging into the website and have had a great experience so far (been well over a year since I signed up)

I've had a Zecco account for about 5 months now and have had nothing but good experiences. The site is easy to navigate and the emails about account information are really nice, you always know how your investments are doing. I would recommend it to anybody else who's a casual trader who does not make a lot of trades per month (long term investors) and the ZERO commission trading is great. All you need is a minimum of $2,500 to start a account. Zecco is a great investment site.

Zecco has a very slick, intuitive user interface clearly designed by people who know what they're doing, and who know how to make a secure website. I'm working with very little money, and commissions are very low. They also have a low total-equity threshold for offering limited free trades. They call me now and then just to check up, and I got a friendly and helpful call when I had some options about to expire in-the-money. Order execution is practically instantaneous. A friend of mine, also on Zecco, had a very good experience getting into a hard-to-buy penny stock with some help from his broker. Cons include no off-hours trading, no futures trading as far as I can tell, and (reasonable) per-contract options commissions. I'll be sticking with them for some time.

I've used several different brokers in my career and I am happy with Zecco. There are some annoying advertisements but the 10 free trades a month more than make up for that. I have found that their executions to be fairly fast. During the recent market upheaval, I can remember only two days where their site was down. I understand that even that is too often for some traders. I also know that they have beefed up their server capacity and since the upgrade I have no longer had any 'blackout dates'.

The customer service is quick, but the web site is pretty bare bones. I do use another broker for charting and streaming quotes so I can not comment on the products they offer for sale.

Zecco is amazing. I researched many different brokerage firms and found zecco to be the best. It has low trades at $4.50/trade and they give 10 free trades every single month you are a member as long as you have a minimum of $2500 in the account. That is over $500 of savings from trades a year. I would recommend zecco to anyone interested in investing in the stock markets.

this is really cheap, which is what i was looking for. i wish more brokers were like this, because it would really help the economy by making people less stingy about the number of their trades.

When i heard that Zecco offered cheap and easy trade services i was very skeptical. Only after i thoroughly checked it out and tested its service did i truly become convinced. Zecco is by far the best value broker site on the internet.

Website is slow sometime to the point you could not log-in. There was overhauled recently on their system but apperently the problem occurs every now and then.

These folks don't offer a lot of bells and whistles but that's just fine with me. Their site is designed for you to log on, do your business, and log off. So your research is best done elsewhere. I like that they archive your statements for a good amount of time so you can go back and print them out later if you choose. The one time I used over the phone customer service (due to my screwup) the experience was fast and pleasant and my problem was resolved in a matter of minutes. I'll be sticking with these guys a long time.
